Dirty Deeds

Dirty Deeds - S.E. Jakes If I have to use only one word for this book I’d say: confusing.

I know I don’t have the best English but I have some practice in reading in a foreign language and here I was completely lost. I’ve read the first two books in the series now and, still, I couldn’t find myself in all this mess. Too many people, too many names, too many countries and places, too many murders, too many short dialogues, too disorganized thoughts, I couldn’t separate all of it and had to re-read some parts twice or more times.

There was that boastfulness here that is also portrayed in the H&HW series but the difference is set on the fact that there was nothing here apart from sex and macho crap. The sex was HOT but it was too crude and raw for my taste, above all because I don’t feel like this would develop a romance. Of course it will, because it’s a series and in this gender that’s the rule, but I don’t BELIEVE it, if you know what I mean.

I think this novella would have been better with far more pages, with an actual plot and character growth. Because I felt that despite all the words and thoughts and dialogues, nothing really happened. It’s like that sensation you have when you have been spinning for a while and you stop a second and discover you haven’t moved from that point. Too much movement but little change.

I want to be able to SEE and EXPERIENCE the progress the MC must live to get the HEA. But instead, it was finished abruptly with a half done feeling. I like my meat fresh and medium rare but not alive. Apart from that, everything fits in a way I don’t feel natural although is compelling enough to do not give up in the reading.

Cillian is that interesting secondary who ignites some jealousy in Tommy, that mysterious and cocky and full of himself spy who turns into another person in this novella. I could hardly recognize him and I don’t say that in a good sense. I didn’t see proof of them both being the same subject. Yes, we know little of Cillian apart from the face he shows in the chats with Prophet but I admit I feel a bit cheated. On the other hand, I was satisfied with Mal, although that could be due to the fact that he makes a very short appearance in H&HW, so I have little to compare him to.

But, after all of this is said, I am interested in this story and perhaps will continue it. It sounds crazy but curiosity bit me when the Pandora box is opened and we find out the connection between Cillian and Mal's past. I liked that surprise factor and that could save some of this disappointment. And of course, the sex is nothing I would like to miss out.

I'll sleep on it and see...
