Long Time Gone

Long Time Gone - S.E. Jakes image

I was ready this time.

When I read the first book I complained about the childish behaviour of the MC. But I also admitted that I couldn’t deny the attraction this couple had over me. So I gave in and bought the second in the series. I’m so glad I did!

I won’t say I didn’t have one déjà vu (or more) related to the Cut & Run series, because I did. But the difference between [b:Catch a Ghost|18278085|Catch a Ghost (Hell or High Water, #1)|S.E. Jakes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375491930s/18278085.jpg|21986908] and [b:Long Time Gone|17936957|Long Time Gone (Hell or High Water, #2)|S.E. image

Because I REALLY love their dynamics. I covet that chemistry every time I open a new book and I hope to find it there. My fingers feel the electricity these two transmit, straight to the heart. They say that when we fall in love we feel a pressure in our heart, but it really is the pit of one’s stomach. I think that idea very unromantic. I think you agree. But I really felt that thing in the pit of my stomach. Maybe I have a weird stomach. This book is not a masterpiece for me, but my dear, I can’t deny the intestine moods Prophet and Tommy awake. But not in a disgusting way, just in a butterfly-like way.

In any case, I liked this book pretty much and it made me think each sentence they say, because they only mutter the minimum of words and the receptor of the message gets it, but I have to think about why it makes sense and suddenly the light comes and I understand. I sounds tedious and sometimes I wondered how can people be that receptive with so little information, but it’s a book, so I took it as a funny fact.

image

One thing I liked about this book is that we get to know the MC. The importance of the mystery plot is not that big, so we can focus on them, the ones that really hold an interest to me. We discover determining incidents about Tommy’s past.

Prophet’s are yet to come, but that’s fine, they have to sell the third book too (hehehe).

image

The other thing I liked is the touching. I re-read every touch and caress and kiss like a school girl, only the lollipop was missing and I needed it because I was drooling. I’m pathetic, I know. But I cherished every movement and here they are not hidden or aborted prematurely. No, here they fulfilled the needs of physical bonding and I loved it. Here they fulfilled the needs of the right dosis of feelings and soul bonding and I loved it.

There is going to be a hurricane in Tommy’s home place, so Prophet decides to travel there to make sure Tommy’s aunt, Dolla, is safe. He knows from the horse’s mouth Tommy can’t leave EE but he doesn’t expect him to ignore direct orders and they crash (literally) when they are reunited.

image

But the hurricane is the less dangerous of their worries.

image

Past enemies make an appearance.

image

Despicable family makes an appearance.

image

Bad luck makes an appearance.

image

And feelings are the hardest conflict to overcome.

image

Of course, the snark is not lost.

I liked the secondary characters pretty much. They are all bad-asses, Prophet’s kind. I guess birds of a feather flock together. Cillian gives up the turn to Blue and Mick, a more interesting pair than I expected at first. And some of Prophet’s partners are talked about, I wonder if they will have their own stories, because this is getting very close to the BDB series. And, although Prophet considers the fortune-teller a liar, I have some questions about Prophet’s future and his apparent madness and blindness and how they will affect them in the following books. I can’t say I don’t have some curiosity and the road is too fun to be ignored.

Above all, a very enjoyable reading, expecting the third one in the series!
